Licensing Policy

This Licensing Policy explains the rights granted when a Map is purchased on Fightplane ("Company"), and the rights Sellers grant to the Company and to Buyers. It supplements our Terms and Conditions and is incorporated into every transaction on the Site.

1. Ownership

Sellers retain all copyright and other intellectual property rights in the Maps they upload, except for the limited licenses expressly granted in this Policy. Purchasing a Map transfers a license to use it — it does not transfer copyright or ownership of the underlying artwork.

2. Standard License Granted to Buyers

Unless a listing specifies different terms permitted under Section 4, each purchase grants the Buyer a non-exclusive, non-transferable, worldwide license to:

• Use the Map in tabletop roleplaying game (TTRPG) sessions run by the Buyer, whether in person or via virtual tabletop (VTT) software;
• Use the Map in paid or commercial games the Buyer runs, including paid one-shots, paid campaigns, convention games, and games run for hire;
• Use the Map in streamed or recorded actual-play content, including monetized YouTube videos, Twitch streams, and podcasts, where the Map appears as part of gameplay footage;
• Modify, crop, recolor, or add elements to the Map for the Buyer's own use in the above contexts;
• Print the Map for personal or in-session tabletop use.

3. Restrictions

The Buyer's license does not permit:

• Reselling, sublicensing, or redistributing the Map file itself — whether unmodified, cropped, recolored, or otherwise edited — as a standalone product, in an asset pack, or bundled with other assets;
• Uploading the Map (or derivative files that substantially reproduce it) to another marketplace, asset store, or file-sharing service, free or paid;
• Using the Map to train, fine-tune, or prompt a generative AI model, unless the listing expressly permits this;
• Claiming authorship of the Map or using it in a way that falsely implies the Seller's endorsement of the Buyer's product or brand;
• Using the Map in NFTs or blockchain-linked tokens, unless expressly permitted by the listing;
• Any use that violates applicable law.

Buyers may distribute *screenshots or video/audio of gameplay sessions* that happen to include the Map (per Section 2) — this is not considered redistribution of the Map file.

4. Listing-Specific and Tiered Licenses

Sellers may offer alternate license tiers on a listing (e.g., a lower-priced "Personal Use" tier and a higher-priced "Commercial/Publisher" tier permitting use in the Buyer's own published commercial products, such as a paid PDF adventure module or app). Where offered, the specific tier purchased controls over the Standard License in Section 2. Any tiered terms must be clearly disclosed on the listing before purchase and may not grant Buyers *less* than the minimum protections in this Policy without prior approval from the Company.

5. Seller Warranties and Grant to the Company

By listing a Map, the Seller represents and warrants that:

• They own the copyright in the Map or have secured all rights necessary to license it as described in this Policy (including rights to any third-party stock textures, brushes, or assets used);
• The Map does not infringe any third party's intellectual property rights;
• They have the authority to grant the licenses described in this Policy.

The Seller grants the Company a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, reproduce, publicly display, and use the Map (including in thumbnails and marketing) for the purpose of operating and promoting the Marketplace.

6. Third-Party and Stock Assets

If a Map incorporates licensed third-party stock assets, the Seller must ensure the applicable stock license permits sublicensing for commercial resale through the Marketplace under the terms of this Policy, and must disclose any such assets in the listing if the underlying stock license requires attribution.

7. License Termination

A Buyer's license to a specific Map terminates automatically if the Buyer breaches this Policy or the Terms and Conditions (for example, by redistributing the raw file). Termination does not entitle the Buyer to a refund of the original purchase price and does not affect Maps validly licensed prior to termination that were used in compliance with this Policy.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Licensing Policy from time to time. Changes apply prospectively to future purchases; they do not retroactively reduce the rights already granted for Maps purchased before the change took effect, unless required by law or necessary to address a legal or safety issue.
